Attractions


This small island contains 3 World Heritage Sites of: the Brú na Boinne, Skellig Michael and the Giant's Causeway. Also unique to the Island is the Burren a limestone region rich with flora and fauna indigenous to Ireland.

 

Some of the most visited sites in Ireland include:

  • Holy Cross Abbey
  • Blarney Castle.

 

Historically important monastic sites include the pretty Glendalough and Clonmacnoise, which are maintained as national monuments.


Dublin is the most heavily touristed region,and home to several of the most popular attractions such as the Guinness Storehouse and Book of Kells.


The west and south west, has attractions such as the Lakes of Killarney, the Dingle peninsula in County Kerry, and the Aran Islands in County Galway.

 

Stately homes, built during the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries are also major attractions such as, Castle Ward, Castletown House, Bantry House. Some have been converted into hotels, such as Ashford Castle, Castle Leslie and Dromoland Castle.

  • Ireland has 5 main international airports: Dublin Airport, Belfast International Airport (Aldergrove), Cork Airport, Shannon Airport and Ireland West Airport (Knock). There are also several smaller regional airports.
  • Ireland also has several major ports, in Dublin, Belfast, Cork, Rosslare, Derry and Waterford. Some of which operate Ferry services.
  • Railway and Train services in the Republic of Ireland are managed by Iarnród Éireann and connect most major towns and cities. In Northern Ireland, all rail services are provided by Northern Ireland Railways.
